 Excellence in Entertainment Workshops

Bring your voice, instrument, or dancing shoes to one of our exciting 90-minute workshops. Sharpen your musical, dance or improvisational skills using unique Disney music and choreography. Imagine stepping into an actual sound studio and taking part in a simulated film recording session, or facing the challenge of learning Disney show or parade choreography!  Excellence in Entertainment Workshops are just what you need to take your skills to the next level.

Performing groups can enhance the educational value of their visit with hands-on, Disney-facilitated workshops designed to strengthen the performance skills of participants (ages 5 and up). Entertaining and informative sessions make it easy to add a touch of Disney magic to performances. Workshops are also available WITHOUT a performance experience (Ticket Package plus Workshop Fee).

Workshops - Soundtrack Session: Instrumental**
Who Should Attend? - Concert bands and orchestras
Participants Covered - 30
Brief Description - Students step into an actual sound studio to take part in a simulated film recording session, complete with video playback and click track. A Disney musical director conducts the session, treating students as if they were professional studio musicians.

Workshop - Soundtrack Session: Jazz Band**
Who Should Attend? - Jazz bands
Participants Covered - 15
Brief Description - A Disney expert leads a musical creativity challenge as students improve their sight-reading skills and improvisational skills. Playing concepts will be reinforced - including style, rhythmic, interpretation, sound, articulation and the importance of a solid rhythm section. The final product is a compelling jazz performance synchronized to film.

Workshop - Soundtrack Session: Percussion**
Who Should Attend? - Marching or concert percussion ensembles
Participants Covered - 15
Brief Description - The Percussion workshop is taught by veteran Disney percussion experts. Playing and performance practices are discussed and applied to the student's ability level during this unique customized session of rhythmic pounding and drum hitting pandemonium.

Workshop - Soundtrack Session: Vocal**
Who Should Attend? - Choirs
Participants Covered - 20
Brief Description - Students step into an actual sound studio for a simulated recording session; complete with headphones and click track. They are treated like professional studio musicians hired to overdub previously-learned material, sight-read and bring to life a score for a Disney Animated Feature. This hands-on learning laboratory gives students insight into the world of the professional singer.

Workshop - Academy Show Choir
Who Should Attend? - Show Choirs
Participants Covered - 20
Brief Description - Working with a Disney choreographer/director students in this workshop learn the importance of their individual contributions to the overall success of their performing group. Students participate in an experience styled to the needs and strengths of the ensemble.

Workshop - Industry Show Choir*

Brief Description - Students step into the shoes of a Disneyland® Resort variety performer in a simulated rehearsal process. This hands-on, learning laboratory teaches the high standards of musicianship and a professional work ethic in a manner that can be related to many careers.

Workshop - Academy Dance
Who Should Attend? - Dance studios, dance teams
Participants Covered - 20
Brief Description - Students experience a workshop styled to the specific needs and strength of their ensemble. Given permission to "go for it", the students face the challenge of learning Disney show or parade choreography taught by a Disney choreographer/director.

Workshop - Industry Dance*
Who Should Attend? - Dance studios, dance teams
Participants Covered - 20
Brief Description - Students are lead through a fast-paced, high-energy exploration of the audition process and the realities of the entertainment industry.  Students learn steps from an actual Disney production along with "tricks of the trade" that make performances sparkle.

Workshop - Improvisational Acting
Who Should Attend? - Acting classes
Participants Covered - 15
Brief Description - This workshop challenges students to stretch their creative talents in a non-threatening, supportive environment lead by a professional Disney entertainer. By participating in a wide variety of improvisational-based games and activities, students discover how character and motivation enhance their performance, gain confidence in their own instincts and are introduced to a variety of improvisational techniques.

Workshop - Express Yourself
Who Should Attend? - Performance and Leadership Teams
Participants Covered - 15
Brief Description - Students are encouraged to communicate, work together and appreciate how each member brings something valuable and unique to the group. Students will be guided through team building and trust exercises by a professional Disney entertainer in an encouraging, relaxed and fun environment. Students gain confidence and strengthen their relationships within the group.

*These sessions are recommended for advanced groups and an audition tape is required.

Tune In Seminar - Enjoy an interactive 90-minute class that gives an inside look at how Disney Magic is created with live entertainment. Students learn the integral role that music plays at the Disneyland® Resort, in Disney film, and in our world. Interactive exercises and Disney film moments are used to test their knowledge of the basic building blocks of music. The finale is a soundtrack recorded by selected students, with a playback synced to a scene from a Disney animated film.
(A minimum of 20 participants is required. No instruments are necessary.)
